ICO Gallery and the year…of The Beard

12/01/08: It’s the first of the mooooooooooonth.
I think about this. I think about this as I unveil the following truth upon ye. By this time next month, I will have no job and will be pursuing art indefinitely. After a difficult decision, but one that I think is worthwhile, I’m stepping back from my counseling work to pursue art. I don’t think my work with kids is done, and I’m leaving open the possibility of filling in from time to time at the home, but I’m mainly going to be creating and mainly in the live arena.
I’ll be attempting to paint every date in January. So be on the lookout as I pencil in dates for next month, January 2009.
Since we last chittychatchatted, I’d sent you a few photos from Fiasco 3 and told you of the thieving thief of thoughtlessness. No word on the missing paintings, but no worries. Art and life marches on.
The end of November brings the closing of the group show Kinetic Motion at Many Worlds Gallery in Pottsville, PA. We give many thanks to Thalo and co. for hosting my paintings on their wall for the exhibit. It marked my first out of state gallery showing. In fact, considering we have this Friday coming up in NYC, a lot of hallmarks have been reached this month. I’m showing a painting in my first NYC gallery show at the ICO Gallery. Please come out and support!!! We’d love to see you there.

Thinking about it now, I’m kind of amazed at how serrendipitous things have been recently. I thank the universal Spirit for this and hope to honor it in many artsplosions to come. But it’s weird and amazing and suprising, how everything comes together and progression is made.
Weapons of Mass Production have really splashed down in Charlottesville and provided a vital, creative space to perform in. Since the Dust shows (Orchard Lounge and Dr. Fameus), WOMP has come back and blasted through the former Starr Hill dancespace, renamed IS (an invert of the restaurant that houses it and is located below, SI) with two key shows. Telesma and 2020 Soundsystem. Be on the lookout for WOMP’s website debute and let me know what you think. These guys are doing great things with livetronica and DJs in the Baltimore, Richmond and Charlottesville area. Enclosed are shots from the Telesma painting, as well as the finalized 2020 Soundsystem work.

Halloween brough the Kings of Belmont to the R2 Dancespace on the dowtown mall in Charlottesville. Dubbed the Queens of Belmont for the evening, the boys of Bacchanalia belted out a first set of songs crafted by female led bands. And they slayed it. From Brittany Spears to Nancy Sinatra, the QOB in drag, kicked the shit out of every lazy pumpkin in the room.
My first Halloween painting. Sigh.

What else? Oh yeah! Enclosed is one last pic of a painting called Dogma To Her, which was crafted to a band known as Raw Dawg as well as another called Grey Matter at a joint that’s about 15 minutes down the road from my house, Uncle Charlie’s Smokehouse. I learned that night that they may have to axe having music there because people had been drinking in the parking lot and the police had been scouting it all out. I say boo-hiss. I like that venue and I like seeing music there. Boo-hiss, I said. Boo-hiss.
I hope they figure it all out. Anyway, Raw Dawg is a fun band and I’d reccomend seeing them if you’re ever in the area, as is Grey Matter. The percussionist of Raw Dawg picked this piece up, but prints can be made available if you give me some notice.
