Oh the Places You Will Go…
I think I need a replicator. I think I need a replicator because, between traveling, painting, working, sleeping and now moving to a new location, I find I leave myself little time to update this here place in space. My last post was after Bucks County III and I have to say that a LOT has been accomplished since then. Road weary, I am, but stopping I am not.
After Bucks County, we made the decision to travel up to NYC to paint with Buzz Universe for the second year in a row at Washington Square Park. This place is amazing, with streams of people running through the general area towards some alternative collective pool all day long. Buzz played some great sets and the crowd was appropriately enthusiastic. We set up the art table and put paintings all over the park, garnering some attention, a few sales and a lot of positive feedback. Julia did a great job of explaining the process to various passersby and really helps me when it comes to the PR end of things. Tough for me to talk and paint at the same time (focusfocusfocus).
I’ll be posting a lot of photos soon, but here are a few from the day…

The following weekend, on 05/16/08, I drove up from Virginia to see Julia in Philly, as well as to spend two nights at The World Cafe Live. Friday night found us teamed up with Buzz U once again, while Saturday was spent creating to The Juggling Suns. We managed to capture a lot of video from both nights but still haven’t figured out how to release the live stuff onto the net as of this posting (not my camera). Friday night’s piece with Buzz U was a prayer piece, created using only the word “love” over and over again until the painting was saturated with lines, colors and hopefully passion.

This is What Love Looks Like: 05/16/08: painted live to Buzz Universe
Saturday night found us downstairs with Juggling…I painted a purple tulip for Brianne in this one…Buddha and an alien jam, with the Tulip looking on…

Did we stop there, you might ask?? Did I go back to Virginia and then decide that it’s too strenuous to keep driving all over the darned place just to create? NO!! Are you kidding??!?!?!?!? NEVER!!
Well, I did take a weekend off, but with rising gas prices, who could blame me? And honestly, I don’t want to constantly consume gasoline anyway. I honestly with I had a teleporter or something. The only thing I truly dislike about the live painting process is having to overconsume gas. The only real solution is to throw a festival in Virginia with all of the bands that I love. Somehow, I think this is going to be a reality sooner rather than later…
In any case, with a weekend to rest, I contacted the Natural Breakdown..currently listening to their set from Some Kind of Jam 3 onĀ www.archive.org.
and set up coming up to paint at the 8×10 in Baltimore the following weekend on 05/31/08. After a myriad of setbacks and traffic galore, we made it to the venue. The Doctor parked the car in the middle of the alleyway so I could get my stuff out of the car…as I rushed to do this, horns started blaring behind me and I quickly threw everything into a pile on the sidewalk, tapped the car and told the Doc to get the hell out of there before we got eaten alive. I ran into the venue and threw canvas close to stage and just tore into it…see my myspace blog for an in depth review of what went down that evening. I got a nice talking to by the owner of the club because I rested the canvas on one of his speakers. Evenings of humility are important and that’s all I’ll say about that.
Here’s the piece, titled Ascension Through the Madness of Emotion (painted live on 05/31/08 to the Natural Breakdown)

For now, dinner’s ready and I need to take a break. Coming soon…pics and info about the NOLA Preservation Society Benefit on 06/13/08, pics and info about the rousing success at Stonehenge, shots from Modest Mouse in Charlottesville and upcoming dates, including Floydfest in VA, Phanphest in Kempton, PA, Evolve 2012 in upstate NY and more!!
